Cpms35vn

Today is the first time I have ground on any CPM35VN and I was surprised how easy this stuff grinds. While I was profiling some blades, a friend stopped by and wanted to know what type of metal I was using. Then he started wanting to know how does it compare to D2 and CPM154 on edge retention. Since I have never made a blade from it before much less used one, I could not answer his questions. Does anyone here know how CPMS35VN compares in edge retention to those two steels?

cpms35vn will have at least 20% to 30% better edge holding than cpm154 and it *might* have a slight lead on D2, it might not.

It does become a bit more difficult to grind after heat treat but still is quite managable even in hand finishing. Frank

I sharpened a blade of S35VN yesterday using a 120, a 220, a 400 a 16 and then a 5 I got a fantastic edge doing this. I will now try this on the next blade of a different steel. I hope I get the same results. Frank

I get way less chipping on 35vn when I go for a polished edge like Frank describes.
