    Felt platen

What adhesive are you guys using to attach the teflon sheet to the felt platen? Will spray adhesive hold up? I mean, that's a lot of force being put on that piece of teflon. I've tried using construction adhesive, but it's very thick and won't spread evenly and leaves waves underneath the...

    Grains, Carbides, and You

Carbides growing? That's a new one on me. I thought only the individual grains of the matrix surrounding the carbides grow.

Tai, I could definitely see why forging that piece would definitely improve the quality of the blade that was produced from it. Thank you for posting.

I've never seen photos of air bubbles in a piece of steel before. I don't think that happens too often with rolled steel.

Using a "pre-quench" with D2 (A2?) in order to refine grain. 3. Forging stainless. Taboo? Is it O.K. as long as you don't reach...

How do you make a quench tank?

I keep it simple, myself. I weld up a piece of 6" tube to a piece of 1/4" flat plate. When I'm ready to HT, I hit the tank with a weed burning propane torch (from harbor freight) until I get it to the temp that I want.

When should I change out my HT oil?

I haven't changed my Parks' yet, but I change my peanut oil when it won't get to 400 F anymore. (I marquench my A2 in it.) (Don't ask...it's a habit I picked up a few years back.)

O.K. John. Thanks for the reply. I'm also interested in obtaining other oils beside Parks. Don't like to be held hostage by Parks.
