    Purse Knife

Momma wanted a knife for her purse and she wanted something "pretty". So I came up with the Purse Knife. Not sure the pictures really do it justice but she's happy and that's the important thing. D2 blade, Azurite and Malachite scales with small mosaic pins and my leather.

    More leather work

Just finished that one this morning. Was going for a more blended subtle look and I kinda like the way it came out as well.

    More leather work

So I've learned to make a sheath (more or less) so figured it was time to learn a bit about stains so went back down to the local Tandy store and got another brief lesson from one of the folks that worked there. Loaded up with my new found knowledge, I figured I'd wade in on a few sheaths I've...

    Learning to make a sheath

Doug, Thanks for the tips. I did back stitch but only on the end not at the beginning. My "tutor" didn't mention beginning with back stitching. I actually used a small punch to do the holes and then marked it with an awl on the welt and on the back... Took longer, but allowed me to be more...

    Learning to make a sheath

Amazing all the stuff that goes along with learning to make a knife. Seems you can't make a knife without a sheath so I figured I'd better give it a shot. Never worked with leather in my life, but a trip to the Tandy store and a quick tutorial on how some of the tools worked from the lady at the...

2nd attempt at a blade from scratch

So, just got this one back from a guy who was making me a sheath. Took about 3 weeks to get back. (Hence my post about learning to make a sheath) Just a little scrap of D2 I had left over from my first blade and I have always kinda liked Gene's hippo toe or whatever he calls it and figured...

    New blade

Thanks guys. I flat grind. Did drill the holes after that pic. was taken. My biggest struggle is preimarily around the crappy grinder I'm using. It's just a little ryobi 4x36. It works fine, but it has a small area that extends out past the sides of the platen on both sides and makes it really...

    New blade

Thanks Doug. Hope I don't need the technique for straightening blades too soon.

New guy in the Austin Area

Hey guys. I'm new to knife making and in the Austin area. Just learning to grind a few blades for my own enjoyment. I really don't have the equipment or the background, but I'm slowing learning to grind a blade that might be useful. Murph was kind enough to point me this way.

    New blade

Hey thanks Murph. Really appreciate you directing me over here. Lots of great info and experience available.

    New blade

Hi guys. I'm relatively new to knife making. Murph directed me over here and it looks like a great place for me to learn. I've thrown a couple of kits together and have just started trying to grind my own blades. I've read a few articles and what not and have some very limited equipment but I've...
