Looks like useful sheaths that are going to last someone a good long time. Nice touches with the embossing on the second and I like the subtle lines around the mouth of the profile of the sheath in the first two pics.

    Getting ivory

I recently asked a maker if he would make me a pair of knives with elephant ivory handles and he said he would if he could find documented ivory for the project. I did not know at the time about the history of elephant ivory. Anyhow, I still want elephant ivory handles and I'm wondering if...

Invitation extended to suppliers, dealers, service providers and other knife industry

It's good of you Tracy to put this out there so people like me get a better sense of why we need "another knife forum" - this puts it into perspective and explains why what's already out there does not satisfy your vision and how this place will be different.

    Other Leather Goods

Thank you Eli. I cut to size and bevelled the edges to be sewn, and used a groover on the inside of the edges to make the leather more able to fold to 90 degrees. I cased the leather then worked over the box with a bone folder focusing on the 90 degree turns. Kept the leather on the box while...

    Reference Books

I've primarily just got a collection of Tandy booklets - the Lucky 7, leather case projects vols I and II, stitching leather, coloring leather, etc. I have some non-Tandy books I picked up at Tandy including a dragon design book (for carving ideas) and a couple books on celtic patterns, design...

    even dye application

Another tip is to be sure you're applying the dye in fluid circular strokes. Note that a freshly charged wool dauber will drop most of its dye as soon as it hits the leather and it is going to saturate that one spot. Your job is to blend that dye as fluidly as possible and blend that drop zone...

    Finish questions.

Great info from Dwayne. If you're using alcohol-based dye it will dry out your leather. I strongly urge using some type of conditioner on your leather after dying to increase its longevity. Neatsfoot works, or Lexol, or any other conditioner you like. I use both of those listed, but not...
