    Nielsen Disc grinder system

Calvin, I was beginning to think it was just me. Can someone tell me the advantage of the Neilson system? If I can just change the paper out on one disk in a matter of seconds, why do I need multiple discs.? What do you use to attach the paper to a Neilson disc.? Surely you're not using PSA...

    Nielsen Disc grinder system

When I said you won't find much difference in a 1 degree versus a flat disc, I'm talking about how flat either will get your work. The "Cone Effect" on a one degree disc is so little it's not distinguishable for any practical purpose. I've also heard from quite a few makers that use a flat disc...

Hand sanding. Continue with whatever grit you come off the disc with sanding lengthwise by hand and within a few minutes you're good as gold!

    Nielsen Disc grinder system

    C. Craft, I use my disc for bolsters and scales or anything I want to get flat, but the majority of its use is finishing grinding. The disc has saved me an untold amount of hand sanding. I can come off the belt grinder at 120 grit and use the disc to get a really good 400 or 600 grit surface...

    Nielsen Disc grinder system

Something to think about would be just adding another motor and flat disc and running it off the same VFD via a switch set up. Although, I'm not sure your going to find much difference between a 1° and a flat disc.

    Nielsen Disc grinder system

About the same price? I paid $89 for my Beaumont Metal Works disc and was quoted $370 shipped for a Nielson hub and one disc. Not quite the same in my wallet.

    Nielsen Disc grinder system

When I first saw the Nielson system I thought it was pretty cool, but once I got pricing I knew it would not be in my future. In searching for an alternative system of switching grits, I found 3M's feathering disc adhesive that makes multiple discs unnecessary as you can just switch out the...

    Kbac27d dvd ?

Yes, they will remain lit until the capacitors discharge, which is about 20 seconds or so, then they should go out. With my 1725rpm motor I set the speed to 2x. 1x would be way to slow for me. Not sure on what pulley you want to run as mine is direct drive.

Question on my grinder build (Almost done)

I've been running with 60# for over a year and never had a belt break. I also run wet when I'm grinding post HT, again no problems.

Question on my grinder build (Almost done)

I used a 60# on my GIB. It's a bear to compress, but the grinder tracks great.

    Peters Heat Treat

I just sent in a couple of AEB-L blades and was quoted $27.50 each for the first four and then $110.00 for 5-20 blades. You will have to pay for shipping on top of that. They do a great job and in my opinion, it's worth the price. Please give them a call to confirm as the pricing for your...

    World's best thread about grinders...

Our next contestant is a Grinder in a Box V2. She sports a 1-1/2HP, 3ph, 1750rpm Iron Horse motor with a KBAC-27D VFD set at a racy 2X . Shown adorned with a ceramic glass flat platen, she occasionally prefers to spin a 10" contact wheel and has been known to accessorize with several small...

Looking at buying a 2×72 grinder finally.

Yeah, I didn't really notice it until I started using different tooling arms, such as a small wheel holder and a ten inch wheel. When I did, I found I would have to change the entire set up of my wheels any time I changed arms. Once I was able to get the tracking arm horizontal, so that the axle...

Looking at buying a 2×72 grinder finally.

Let me start off by saying I love my Grinder in a Box, but the version 2.0 was not without it's bugs. I had a terrible time getting mine to track correctly until I discovered that using the gas shock that Jamie suggested created a situation that caused the plane of the tracking wheel to change...

    DIY teacher versus store bought

That's way to much voltage for etching and as Anthony said, any voltage over 30v has the potential to be dangerous.

    Attaching liners to scales.

I like to glue the liner to the scale. Then once dry, I will lay the scales out and drill my pin locations. Then I trace the outline of my tang on the liners and staying inside my traced outline, I drill small holes through the liner and slightly into the scale. This way, when I glue the scales...

Am getting frazzled and feeling overwhelmed. Needing to vent and get a little feedbac

Whenever a friend or family member says "I want a knife", I tell them, "I want a seal that barks my name". That tends to put a end to the problem and the conversation ends with a laugh. As far as teenagers, that's a tough one. Inviting your daughter to join in with your passion is a good...

Great looking build and I agree, there is a special connection with a machine that you built yourself.
