    Wuertz machine works?

Cool. Thanks for the info. I’ve ordered from him as well, but that was before he became famous, lol. I never even tried ordering off his website since I have to sort through purchasing logistics with our company. That’s why I wanted to talk direct with him. I will try that email you shared &...

    Wuertz machine works?

Anybody been in contact with Travis Wuertz lately? I got it approved to buy his grinder and surface grinder attachment here in our machine shop at work, but I can’t get in touch with anyone via phone, messenger or any other way. Just curious!

    Who's using Kirinite?

I was wondering if it was left somewhere with a lot of heat. He grabbed it out of the back of his car. He might keep it there for show & tell. I think it is a show piece for him. He probably doesn't use best practices with some of his stuff??? Good possibility. I'll have to ask him next time.

    Who's using Kirinite?

I didn't see any sign of material coming loose of tang. I used Corby bolts, kirirnte roughed on fresh 60 grit belt & tang sand blasted. Nothing done different than any other knife. What I saw looked more like weird shrinkage!

    Who's using Kirinite?

I've made 4 or 5 knives using Kirinite and had a disbelief moment yesterday. I met up with a customer/friend that bought a knife from me & we handled it with Kirinite. He was showing it off & the handle material caught my attention real quick! This knife is only about 8 months old & there was...

    Etching Damasteel

Clint's method is exactly what I do on Damasteel. The only thing I do is give a very light buff after each etch to take the dullness away, then clean with alcohol and a paper towel. Make sure the blade is clean before going back into acid.

    Handle buffing

It is typically stabilized wood. This usually happens when doing lighter woods. How do you avoid the wood when buffing the tang/pins/lanyard tube?

    forging multiple pieces of "rod"

These are definitely rings of solid steel, about 1/4" in diameter. So I did an experiment tonight with a piece of a ring. I ground two sides flat & tested on the Rockwell tester and got about 42-43Rc. I then heat treated a piece @ 1500 for ten minutes and quenched in an 11 sec oil. Rockwell...

    forging multiple pieces of "rod"

It should be some sort of high carbon stuff. It is used in pre-stressed 66" concrete water pipe made in the 1960's. when you cut these bands in the concrete, it blows apart. When we've been cutting them with the angle grinder, they put off showering sparks. I'm assuming they are at a spring...

    forging multiple pieces of "rod"

Hi, I am new to the forging part of knife making, but I have a source for some carbon steel (round) bands out of concrete pipe. Is there a way to get pieces of these 'bands' and forge them together? They are about 1/4" to 5/16" in diameter. I have some experience making pattern welded steel, so...

TAG 101 grinder or TW 90 grinder

I have been trying to decide on a grinder for the last couple years, debating between a Bader, KMG or TW-90. I thought I had it narrowed down to a Bader or KMG, but took the plunge on the TW-90. Travis is a great guy to talk with (sometimes a little hard to get in touch with, probably because he...

Anyone else losing drive shafts on their NWGS?

When I first built my NWG, I had issues with bad wobble. I think most of it was in the shaft I was using (home fab'd), but I went ahead and welded a 2"x4" rect tube extension outwards to mount the second pillow block. It seemed much sturdier. Since then, I have bought two shafts from Beaumont...
