I throw my opinion in. I like it. I always have a pack knife close at hand when hiking. A finger hole make perfect sense for a rapid deploy. And YES make it so you can grab it properly while its in the sheath, I have several production ones that are not. They stay at home too.
I use Masking and/or painters tape.
If there is any residue left just use Naphtha to wipe it off. It's the main ingredient in goop off. Its also known as traditional lighter fluid, and ridiculously cheap for the job it does and compared to goof off.

Patrick, Its Black Mesquite actually. Woops I thought I labeled everything. Save your scrapes and throw them on your grill when cooking. Adds a great mesquite flavor, that is if you use a propane grill like I do.
