First Knife WIP - need suggestions for fix

Wow Rex, I really appreciate the very detailed post. I know that took a long time to write. I've cut the edge back about 1/8" inch. The edge is at .040" now, but it is still thin at the plunge. I'm already figuring out how to make it a smaller knife. I'll post pics along the way. -Chad

First Knife WIP - need suggestions for fix

Thanks everyone for the help. This forum is awesome. VaughnT, that's what I was thinking of doing. Taking some off the edge will allow me to grind more to make it flush. I've spent so many hours on this thing, I sure would hate to abandon it! I'll post progress when I'm able to work on it.

First Knife WIP - need suggestions for fix

Sorry, I meant to mention it's 1084. I'm thinking that I would HT, then take that side down to flush on the grinder. I may lose some edge doing that. I would also sand and blend the ricasso.

First Knife WIP - need suggestions for fix

Well, I'm knee-deep on my first knife, and I've hit my first big snags. I've ground the blade to within ~.020", which i pray isn't too thin for HT. It looks like my plunge cut went too deep, because I can't get it flush. I've also buggered up the ricasso. Any suggestions to save it?

    Add stain to wood hardener?

Thanks for the Delrin suggestion. Where can I find those?

    Add stain to wood hardener?

Thanks, everyone, for your inputs. I liked the idea of pulling vacuum with the stain first. That's odd about the whitening, because the product is advertised to strengthen rotted wood on door frame, etc...

    Add stain to wood hardener?

I'm working on my first knife. I have a DIY stabilizer rig, and I want to make stabilized dowels to use as pins. Can I add ebony stain to Minwax hardener, or should I just stain them first and then stabilize? Thanks, Chad

I would appreciate you posting more specific plans! Type of tube, nipple, liner. It looks just like what I need for 1084. Thanks, Chad

How to flatten 1084 plate that is bowed

Here's an update. I did a 3-point bend and it seemed to work fine. It took me about 3 tries to dial in the correct amount. As you can see from the picture, I got with within 1/64" over the length of the plate. Thanks for the help.

How to flatten 1084 plate that is bowed

Yes, it is annealed. I bought it from The New Jersey Steel Baron. Since this will be my first knife (and probably very ugly!), I plan on heat treating it myself using the "magnet and motor oil method." Thanks for the help. -Chad

How to flatten 1084 plate that is bowed

Hello all. I've been hanging around a little while, trying to learn as much as I can. This forum is wonderful. I'm starting my first knife, and I ordered some 1084, 4" wide plate @ 0.14" thick. This particular piece is about 10" long, and it has a very slight bow to it, maybe 1/16" in the...
