Whats up everyone! I started this journey almost a year ago, and had a goal of finishing my first frame lock folder before Blade Show. Well, I pulled it off. I have a even higher level of respect for the knife makers out there creating these pieces of functional art, because this tested...
Thanks for sharing the info on the Snap Temper.
I was under the impression that bc you are using LN during the HT process, the temper temps are much lower. As in 400 degrees compared to 950-975 without the use of LN.
It makes sense about the ovens fluctuating. Hopefully the EvenHeat oven I...
Ed,
Thanks for the clarification on the equalizing time. I understand that there will be some experimenting with this process, just as there has been with every other part of this knife making journey. I am just wanting to shorten the learning curve as much as possible with help from my fellow...
So I have done as much research as one can. Watched videos, read posts from countless forums, etc.. Watched Tracy's video too...
Still I have a few questions...
I am HT CPM3V, at .190 thickness for my blade as well as a back spacer at .230 thickness.
1. I am starting off with a stress relief...
As far as the edges go, this is a computer drawing, so all the lines look "sharp". Pretty much all the edges will be chamfered, or knocked down so that it will be comfortable. In regards to the screws being to close. What would be the issue down the road? Just curious.
I see what you mean...
Thanks for the reply Steven. The blade will be fit to the lockbar. In this drawing it is just showing the extra blade that will be eventually grinded down to fit the lock. Yes, there will be a detent pocket in the blade. I have seen a similar grind done before by phantom steel works. So I know...
I would as well! Something I will strive to work towards. There is no deep finger notch and I am not sure what a trailing beard edge is... This design is very geometric, hence the use of a tanto blade. Straight hard lines.
I have a Tanto style blade. When I measured from the most forward part of my handle to the tip of the blade I got 3.32". When I measure along the cutting edge of the tanto, I get 4.03". That 4.03" is comprised of two measurements really. One from the choil to the low point of the tanto. Then...
I couldn't agree more with this! I don't want to get wrapped up in the "math", but was just curious as to what people looked for when evaluating a knife they may purchase.
Interesting Ed.. So what is the deal with the AKTI standard then? That's how I measured mine. From the forward most aspect of the handle to the tip of the blade in a straight line. If done from the plunge to the tip in a straight line I get 3.71", which is much better than 3.32" measured by the...
What matters most to you? The blade length as measured by AKTI methods or the overall cutting edge of the blade. This is just out of curiosity. In my current design (folder), I have a blade length of 3.32", but my cutting edge length is 4.03". Now I am not looking for what may or may not be...
I have searched around for cryo and LN answers, and haven't found what I was looking for. I am going to utilize this process during the HT of my blades. I will only be doing one blade at a time right now. Just getting started. My questions are:
1. How much LN do you usually buy and how long...
