KnifeDogs just another forum, or a migration of makers

I am curious about the intent behind having knifedogs.com. Is it just another knife forums to keep up with, or it something more?

Personally, I really like the layout and sections for all the important topics. I also like that hands are not tied in regard to raffles or auctions. It seems to be supported (owned and operated) by my favorite makers/suppliers, which is the main reason I joined.

Now, on a more serious note. Are the makers permanently migrating here and not renewing their previous memberships on a couple other popular knife forums? Is this the intent? If so, I definitely support that decision. Some other forums have not expanded to help the custom maker and are out of control in regards to high fees for the one man shop.

The purpose of these questions was not to start a war, but discuss a real issue. If it turns into an us vs. them war, then please delete the thread.

No wars here, just good folk !!

It doesn't matter why anyone is here just be happy they are...the atmosphere is great here and i know the owner intends to keep it that way.

What I enjoy about KnifeDogs is the subject matter: knives.

Good honest, open discussion about knife making/makers/tools/techniques.

As a new knifemaker, the ability to interact with some of these guys is frankly amazing. As we know, knifemakers are some of the most helpful people on the face of the planet. These fellows confirm that. Certainly a breed all their own.

That's why it's so nice around here. It's run by knifemakers.

Deane, the purpose of KnifeDogs is to provide a new knife forum that is about knives and only knives. No porn, no bull, no political junk. It is a simple place for us to enjoy and not worry about our 5 year old asking "what is that girl doing". We didn't intend on everyone abandoning other forums to come here. I still have my own forums on 2 others. I think you will find everyone here very helpful and the knowledge base of these makers is incredible. We hope to continue to grow, but also to remember where we come from, if ya know what I mean. Welcome! 2thumbs

I can very much agree on all of this.
There are many other forums out there and they all seem to work.
I joined this one ( and nothing against the others ) but I think? we can build it into a more serious knife forum. It's up to the forum members to make it what they want?
There is not too much in life that you can't change? cool 1

This is one of the reasons I am here. I have a 6 year old son that I don't want seeing junk like that. My wife didn't care for it either. I am still a member on several forums but I stay here more and more. It is a great place to get answers and to laugh at yourself (which I do alot). It has alot of my favorite makers and I am finding more and more. I do build but I am new and still have alot to learn. To me this is the place to do it.

my take

There is a lot of credit due to Tracy and David and the rest of the founders here for taking the initiative in creating a place that has a higher level of professionalism, and I do think there has been a lot of "migration" to this board for some of those reasons.

There are a lot of folks who boast about quantity and volume, and personally I don't think that is as important as quality. Quality posts with interesting topics and material. Something to offer the newbie all the way up the line to the expert.....

Thanks again guys,

Larry
