How narrow & long for a narrow tang?

I've narrowed my tang down substantially from the thick round bar, its now squared and tapered to 5" long. The end is blunt as of now. The thickness starts at 1/2" roughly and tapers to 3/8" or a little less/more.

Should I shorten the tang and round/point the end? Also, I plan on using a stag roll for the handle...but if all else fails, a wood block. The blade is 7.5" long from tip to ricasso.

Leave it long for now,you can always shorten it to fit your handle material, but it's real hard to put steel back on.Also depends on what kind of handle your making,a stub tang or a through tang.Mount your guard and handle material and adjust as needed at the time.

roger that, i did go ahead and shorten it sub 5" as I plan on putting it on a stag roll and then using a concho or something similar for the buttcap. I also rounded it somewhat while pricking around in the forge.
