#9 - first hidden tang

Ernie Swanson

SASSY PINK LUUNCHBOX KNIFE MAKER
This was my first attempt at a hidden tang.
I don't think I did to bad!! There are a couple things I need do do different next time like, Make the tang higher and be a little more careful with a sanding drum:eek:

As you can see in the pics I have the pin to low on the handle, When I was using my sanding drum to sand out where the guard and wood meet, I went a little to deep and hit the channel I bored in the wood for the tang:mad:
But I mixed epoxy with the wood dust and covered it up.
This is going to be my shop knife:D

Lookin good Big Ern! The first thing I realized about hidden tangs was to measure, draw, re-measure, try-fit, etc etc before assembling.

Hidden tangs are fun. They offer you a chance to do cool things with spacers and guards and stuff. This isn't my first one, just the first one I felt happy enough with to sell. Made from a Nicholson file and mild steel guard, cold-blued, with a maple/walnut/hickory handle and black spacers. One brass pin.
