Tubing

I just found some old 1/4" tubing that i'v had for years . And just used it on a knife handle and it's non magnetic and it seems to heat very fast. Can some tell me what kind of steel it is? It seem like if I just tuch it on the grinder it's hot and burns the wood around it. I just don't want to buy any more.
Thanks , Art

what kind of sparks does it throw?
is it dull looking?
can you easily scratch it?

It's not nickle silver. But it feels kinda gummy not much sparks. I think it may be 303?

303 isn't that gummy, sounds like aluminum.
does the surface look oxidized? 303 doesn't tarnish that much, aluminum does.

I'm not sure that it is bad. Tubing gets hot fast. You have to use a very sharp new belt and got at just a little, let it cool and do it again. If you can dunk it in water, all the better.

Might be Ti or the wood your using could burn easily.
Also some time I will stuff the tubing full of papertowel and then drip water in to soak it,then grind.
