Where to get.....

Check the listings for a local refractory supply company and see if they sell soft fire brick (usually rated to around 2300F). Many places carry the hard bricks, but they are not as efficient at reflecting heat and thus have a hard time obtaining temperatures needed. If you can't find a local source, you can get them from Darren Ellis.

As for the fire source, you'll need something that puts out plenty of BTU's to get the forge hot. Many people have used a JTH-7 Bernzomatic torch for one or two brick forges. Anything bigger than that, and you'll likely need to build a more powerful burner (venturi).

What he said!! Lol
A pencil torch is to small and will not give enough heat.
The JTH-7 is a really good torch. It is discontinued but you can usually find them on ebay or sometimes a hardware store.
Also they did upgrade it to a better one with a stainless tip.

well depending on where you can find everything, your looking at around
$35.00 for the torch
and around $3 to 4 for each firebrick

check out the Wayne Goddard $50 Knife Shop:
he tells ya where/what/how much for lots of things to make Hummer knives on a Volkswagon budget;)
Including the propane torches he uses.
