How to get variable speed on belt grinder?

Can anyone tell me how to get my new grinder set up with variable speed without it costing an arm and a leg? I have a major headache from reading all the info I could find on the net and still not sure what to do.

I've read about induction motors, DC motors, and 3 phase and now I'm drowning in too much info.

I have single phase like most people do. Which is the best way to go and how do I do it? I need the info in very easy layman's terms.

Please, any help will be greatly appreciated.

220 single phase ---->Variable frequency Drive---->Creates 220 three phase ---->Three phase AC Inverter duty motor = Variable speed grinder

Match the Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) to the motor HP

Example
2hp drive (VFD) + 2hp motor = 1.5 HP output

If you need more detail just PM me. That's as simple as I can explain on here.

A 90v dc motor and speed control will be the least expensive option.Surplus Center has good prices.

You can always do the poor man's variable speed by installing cone pulleys on the motor and grinder.
