I've only done two folder blades of S35VN, but here's how I did it, and like the way they came out.....

-Pre-heat to 1400F, hold for 30 mins.
-Ramp to 1950F, hold for 30 mins.
-Quickly get it out of the foil, and "Plate Quench".
-Temper for 2 hours X 3 cycles. Forgot to mention I used 650F for the tempering temp

I'd add cryo to what Ed's doing - for any high alloy steel. I'm also not convinced it needs the presoak in thin sections but it certainly won't hurt. I leave blades in the foil for plate quench because they come out WAY cleaner for me. Ed does three tempers and I do two. There are a thousand different right ways to HT any given steel. There are also a million ways to do it wrong. The trick is to ask why somebody has decided to do it a certain way, and if you understand the basics, you can judge it based on that. Polyjuice Potion might be a great quenchant - but ask why. (It tastes like....)

FWIW, S30V is a good steel, but I've found CPM S35VN more consistent. I like it!
