cleaning 1075 prior to use in Damascus

I built a tumbler for cleaning small parts I cut out with cnc plasma. I have about 500 lbs of 1075 that has rust on it. Rather than spend a lot of time grinding it off I put some in my tumbler to clean it. Works very well. Here's a pic of the tumbler and before and after tumbling.

that tumbler is awesome!
I really need to have one of those and it looks like it works great.
did you line it with rubber?
belt drive?

Hey Jim,

That works out great. Next batch, throw something in with forge scale on it and see if it works on that too. Maybe, if you don't need a piece right away, you could save a bunch of elbow grease cleaning up scale.

Thanks for the pictures, Craig

It is not rubber lined. I just welded some paddles on the inside so the parts will bounce around on the inside. I put a bunch of steel circles that were punched out of plate from our iron worker. It has a gear box and a belt drive. It runs at about 60-80 rpm. I was putting silica sand in to help clean it up but it is not really require. They come out clean without it.
