Help for a Rookie!!

Butcher, you sent a PM, but I could not get a reply out. This is the most screwy format I've yet to see, and that is why I seldom even visit here. To answer your question you asked in the PM. I made the blade using stock removal. http://wickellerbe.com/ After the guard and grip is fully shaped and hand sanded to 400 grit, I use loose/no stitching, buffing wheels with green chrome rouge, followed by yellow. The green needs to be completely cleaned off of the knife with mineral spirits or toulene before buffing with the yellow. Use a separate buff wheel for each buff grit you use.

Some metals won't shine well (D2 for one). What are you making the bolster from?

For minimal tools It would be hard to beat sandpaper up to 2000 grit or higher. Because I had it on hand I've been using metal polish (like for shining the brass on your uniform, not the paint on your car) and it takes it another step better. This could be in lieu of a buffing wheel.
