I think this is the first ‘hawk I’ve done with an individual in mind.

The maple haft is 19″ from a shipping pallet. Split, drawfiled, wrasped, oiled, torched and scrapped. No dye, just shellac.
Head is 7″ x 3″ from a 100 yr. old plow. Hot cut, hacksawed, forged and hot filed. Pine pitched and wrapped with rawhide thongs.

Handle wrap and drop is garment leather from a bag with some of my deer rawhide and a few antique seed beads.

Finish on leather is dirt, grease, home brew dye and shellac.
Loosely based on a Walter Shirlaw sketch from 1890…

I hope he likes it 'cause I really hated to put this one in the mail.....…Randy

Looks great. I like the handle very much. I would say your process for getting the "aged wood look" is just right.

Randy,
"I think this is the first ‘hawk I’ve done with an individual in mind."
This opening statement is a real attention getter.
I love your style very easy to identify. Who ever is on the receiving end is going to be very happy. Wade

Thanks Jonathon and messerist.
Thanks Wade, it's true, the first one I've thought about the person as I was piddling with it.
Kinda wild and I think I like it. It also wasn't for sale and that also made a difference. I also didn't think about time,
it just kind of evolved from a bunch of old pics, sketches and ideas.....Randy
