I am working on a bowie with a 31 cm long O1 blade, damascus fittings and a Desert Ironwood handle.

Wow...there's a lot of knife there. I like the progress you made so far. Thanks for the WIP pictures, it adds realism and authenticity to your homegrown efforts.

Back from a week in Germany.
This afternoon I fitted the handle against the spacer and the holes for the pin and the lanyardtube.
Roughly made the contour of the handle.

Gorgeous! And thank you for the WIP pics of your progress... For me, it makes the final product that much better, to see where it came from.

I have a quick question about shaping the handle... Do you glue everything up first and then shape? If so, how do you keep from bumping the damascus spacer when you are forming the very top of the handle?

Thanks for the compliment!
I make all parts seperate. There is a small step between the guard, spacer and handle so if the handle shrinks or expands a little it doesn't show right away.
I can also etch the damascus whenever I want before assembly.
