I've had it for as long as I can remember. It's LOUD and each ear sings a diffrent tune and it changes pitch constantly. My audioligist tells me there is no cure for it so I ask God constantly to help me cope with it and He does.

Calvin... out of curiosity, do you still have your wisdom teeth? I had tinnitus years ago. It disappeared after I had my 2 upper wisdom teeth removed even though the dentist said it wouldn't help.

Yes I do! I never heard about this, are you serious? The only problem with me having this done is that I've lost other jawteeth and if I had my wisdom teeth removed I would have to get some bridges or implants or something. Now you have me thinking if this would be worth a try, thanks for the info.
This reminds me of a guy I knew when I was in the army. The doctor told him if he had all his teeth pulled his constant headaches would go away, he had it done but the headaches didn't go away.

Ricky, I've had it ever since I was in the service. A wet behind the ears Second Lt. fired 3 buckshot rounds a couple of inches from my ear and it has rung ever since. VA says nothing can be done about it. It drives me crazy.

I'm not saying having the wisdom teeth removed will definitely help your tinnitus... it seemed to work for me though. I'll have to take a picture of the sign my dentist put on his door years after I had my wisdom teeth removed. I found it interesting.

How about you Stabber... still have your wisdom teeth?

Long story short, I came by my tinnitus by way of having a 155 shell strapped to 4 propane tanks detonated under me (IED). Fit for full duty now apart from being a little deaf, ringing, and migraines. For me I have to have noise - can't sleep without a noisy fan in the room, etc. The telemedicine folks said that its because the acoustic chamber in my head is out of factory spec, so as sound waves come in, they're not dampened properly, so they keep bouncing around, and you get the ringing. The right wavelength of noise can counteract to some degree, and mask the ringing, which actually makes it sound quiet - its just 2 noises cancelling each other out, like those noise cancelling headphones.

I have had 7 major mastoid surgeries since I retired from USN in 1994. The causes of tinnitus are many . The reason your teeth are involved is the same nerve is involved . Your trigeminal nerve . teeth decay can cause inflamation of your facial nerve , your jaw teeth , and your eyes . thus the trigeminal (3) the nerve runs over the top of your ear and spreads to your jaw , eye ,and face. An ied explosion is classified as a traumatic head injury and should be service connect and is compensible . Lot of dentist mistake its your teeth , the pain and dizziness and tinnitus. a serious sinus infection can mimic the same condition . If it happened in Military get a lawyer and file a claim . I know several gi's that had all thier teeth pulled on one side only to have the pain and tinnitus come back. Its a very complicated nerve bundle . Anyone who has this problem should see a specialist it most likely is an eustchion tube disfunction, and it snowballs to a condition called trigeminal nueralgia . extremely painfull so much in fact its commonly refered to as the suicide disease , kind of about as much pain as a human can stand. Dont go to the VA they suck and wont do anything . google national organization of veterans advocates . They have attorneys that specialize in title 38 USC ( veterans benefits) you may have a perferated typanic membrane ( eardrum) all these conditions are repairable . Usually tinnitus is from an ongoing inner ear infection . I let mine go for so long I went nearly death and my dentist pulled a bunch of my teeth , pain and dizziness ( vertigo ) came back a few years later. My problem was caused by gunfire support missions near Haiphong , North Vietnam in 1966 they fired a 5"54 auto matic cannon while I was retreiving brass .this stuff aint no joke it can cause a fistula or total deafness and some serious pain . it took many years for the condition to get serious by then it was too late . I still suffer from temporary deafness and transitory pain . go to a ENT specialist to rule out tooth decay and sinus infections. Always get a second opinion seriously .... Bubba PS. I can direct you to attorneys who work on contingency .

On going ear infection may explain mine, when I was a little boy I had an earache in both ears for what seemed like years. The pain didn't go away untill my Mother had some Elders in the church lay their hands on me and pray for me. The pain stopped and I never had another earache untill I was about 45 years old but I have always had the tinnitus. I consider it a reminder of the power of prayer. I don't think I could tolerate complete silence.

Prayer has a lot of power , I believe you . any pain ? antihistimines can work as does 2 mg valium 2x daily it works by blocking nerve signals , it is a cns depressant . tinnitus can also be caused by high blood pressure . try blowing your nose but, block your nosrtils , this forces air into your inner ear and temporarily makes it go away . If you sneeze and it helps some then it probably a chronic ear infection , not good because it will get worse as you age . Like going on airplane when your ears pop you are then reversing a retraction pocket in your eardrum by forcing the air into you inner ear.

I went to my dentist's office just to take a pic of the sign on his outside door about checking tinnitus... the sign is gone and I may have to go looking for a 'new' dentist. I think he may have up & retired on me! :les: I was about age 40 when I had the 2 wisdom teeth pulled and the tinnitus stopped but then at age 60 I 'lost' the hearing in both my ears although I hear instrumental music in my right ear and a forced air (like a constantly blowing furnace) in my left ear. With my hearing aids in I can hear speech but it's 'fuzzy' and never 'clear'; I can't make out speech on a phone at all. Finally got me a Captel phone which uses a monitor to show me what the person is saying by way of a 3rd party 'transcriber'. Good luck to all with tinnitus. Sometimes it's better to hear something than nothing at all.

ps... the little dog is my buddy and 'ears'! He has a sharp bark which alerts me to anything going on even when I don't have the hearing aids in.

I've got it from loud noises and blast over pressure. All the Docs say there is nothing they can do about it.... I get the ocational total hearing loss too, Docs told me that they know it happens, but dont know why.

"why" doesnt matter to me as much as "what" we are gonna do about it! Nothing, I guess... :)

Chiropractor my wife used to go to in Hawaii said that there is an adjustment that sometimes works. He pooped my ears pretty good but it didnt work for me.

I've had it for years, lost a lotta hearing formerly owning a junkyard.
