Hay guys I do enjoy this forum. My aged brain is in overdrive and is having a hard time keeping up. I wish we had all this wealth of info 30 years ago and as easy to get to as it is today. I would like to know what I need to show temp in my ht forge ? Any and all info will be appreciated.

thanks

There are a couple of different avenues you can take....either purchase a pyrometer from a ceramics supply outfit such as:
http://baileypottery.com/kilns/pyrometers.htm This is the more expensive route, but about all you have to do is install it and go.

Many of us (myself included) prefer to use a PID controller such as this: http://cgi.ebay.com/Dual-Digital-F-C-PID-Temperature-Control-Controller-/350384161137?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5194860171 along with a thermocouple like this: http://www.omega.com/ppt/pptsc.asp?ref=JTIN&Nav=tema07

Cal,

I buy the following, simply because I know sooner or later it's going to need replacing:
12" long
Ungrounded
SS sheath
1/4" dia
Type K

I bought the PID and thermocouple that Ed listed above. Can someone tell me how to install the thermocouple? Should it stick through the side or come in through the back? Sorry for my ignorance! Any information will be appreciated.
