What is Living Steel?

Ironwolf

The Knife Poet
Living Steel...
What makes a knife more than a knife?
It's not design, materials or method of construction.
It's not the level of skill or years of experience and knowledge.
It's the Awareness,Appreciation and Celebration of Life that we carry within us...
a thing called Passion.
We express it in Song,Music,Dance,Poetry,Painting, and Sculpting,
by using raw materials to bring forth a tangible exclamation and proclamation "I am ALIVE!"
It is our way of saying Thank You to that which Created us.
It is our way of leaving something for others to see,
so that they may witness our Passion, our Celebration of Being...
From the beginning,Knife Makers have created the tools mankind needed to survive.
As time passed, those tools evolved, became more sophisticated and ornate,
and often became more than simply tools.
As Mankind matured, developed and grew,so did our ability to express Passion, and our means to infuse it into our art,our Craft.
Today, there is an astonishing number of ways to make a knife,
and there are many who are able to communicate their Passion through their knives.
It's something that rushes from us
in the exhilarating eruption of flying sparks,
and the thunder of hammers moving molten metal...
It flows from our Spirit in the quite moments of focus, through our fingertips, into the wood and bone we shape for handles...
Some manifest their Passion simply,in eloquent and flowing lines,
a sublime marriage of materials...
Others orchestrate their Passion in a crescendo of color, shape and texture...
Whether it's something that reaches out and captures every eye in the the room,
or waits until you hold it,then speaks to you alone...
It is a Gift from those who invest it into their creations,
to those of us lucky enough to witness it.
Every Knife Maker and Artist has it...and whether it's in a voice that carries to the mountain-tops
or whispers sweetly in the stillness,
I hear it,
and I thank you all for it.

Thank you Randy, and I want you to know it's something that you and I shared recently that got me thinking about this, and prompted me to write it...

(haven't indulged in almost 30 years)...
So I guess I'm just a deep kinda fella:3:

Most Excellent writing Buddy !

Great writing sucks you in and makes you FEEL ! Not easily accomplished by most folks so I commend you for just putting it out there for everyone's judgment.

I think you should send a copy to Knives Annual and see if you can get published. Ironwolf immortalized in ink !!!!

Also wanted to say ya just GOTTA love this forum. You've definately earned your Knife Poet title

Josh

Roy,you're more than welcome to.
I just wrote what we all know,
and do,but I'd be real pleased to share the words with you.

Dang Wolf!
The way you have captured the very heart and soul of your fellow Makers,
is unreal. And I, for one, REALLY think that this, well written assessment,
should NOT get lost in an old thread. So perhaps it could be saved as a
Makers Memorial----Motivation---Lifestyle or something else that I have no
word for just now.
Thanks A Bunch Wolf for your truly gifted observation. Jerry

Thank you Jerry.
The truth of the matter is,
being able to express it in a way that impacts someone is just that; a Gift.
I'm glad I could share it with ya'll.
