I'm gonna be rich!

Buck 110 Collector and Casper's best friend
For a few weeks now I've 'bumped' into a couple of women walking their dogs at the park. We've said 'Hello', 'How ya doing', 'How's the dogs', 'Nice weather', etc.. Last week I mentioned that I wrote rhymes about some of my dogs over the years. So they asked if they could read them. I printed up a copy of 'A Remembrance', 'Dreamerdog' and 'Ballad of Casper' and let them read them as Casper & I took our daily stroll around the park today. I had explained that I considered them 'rhymes' and not 'poetry' as I was not the best English student as a kid and hated poetry in school and that for the most part they were written after I had a couple of beers in my gut.

Casper & I get back to the parking lot and the women are still there so I grabbed my cup of coffee from my truck and walked over to their car. The one woman tells me that the poems were very good and before I could protest that they're only rhymes, she says... "And I should know... I'm a retired English teacher. You should copyright these (she even told me how) and look into putting them in a book." She said if I write a book of my rhymes, she wants a signed copy. Then it hit me... I'd have to go to all the Barnes & Nobles for book signing parties, probably mess up my wrist signing all those books, then hire an accountant to take care of all my money... nah!

Here's a sample:

Ballad of Casper (With help of the Crystals of the early ‘60’s)

My neighbor stopped by on Wednesday night.
Da doo ron ron ron da doo ron ron
Gonna get another dog? he asked to be polite.
Da doo ron ron ron da doo ron ron

Well, I just might do that!
Or I might even get a cat.
That’s when I heard him say…
Da doo ron ron ron da doo ron ron

Got a friend lookin’ for a home for her baby.
Da doo ron ron ron da doo ron ron
Want to meet the pooch on Friday, maybe?
Da doo ron ron ron da doo ron ron

Yes, I’ll meet the pooch on Friday.
No guarantee I’ll take him, okay?
That’s fine and good, she’ll understand.
Da doo ron ron ron da doo ron ron

Da doo ron ron ron da doo ron ron
Da doo ron ron ron da doo ron ron

Friday came and I hadn’t heard a thing.
Da doo ron ron ron da doo ron ron
Then I thought I heard the old doorbell ring.
Da doo ron ron ron da doo ron ron

Sure enough… it’s the guy from next door.
There’s a little dog out here you’ll adore.
Goes by the name of Casper of all things!
Da doo ron ron ron da doo ron ron

Well when I saw that dog, my heart stood still.
Da doo ron ron ron da doo ron ron
The furry bundle of white gave me such a thrill!
Da doo ron ron ron da doo ron ron

Yeah, he looked so fine.
Guess I’ll make him mine.
And then I walked him home.
