Salt Brine

I was told that 1095 treats well with salt brine. I just need to know how to make it. Is it just salt water? What type of salt do I use?

I got some rock salt from the grocery. Bring your water up to the temperature that you want to use it at and add the salt until it stops disolving. A good squirt if dish washing detergent helps as a wetting agent.

If I remember correctly, what you want is a 9% solution, which I believe is one 26oz box of sea salt per two gallons. Many smiths add salt until the solution will float an egg. If you add too much salt, the benefits diminish. Do the math to see if I'm right. It has been a while since I mixed any. As to quenching a blade in it, leave your edge thick.
