I had the pleasure of helping Gil Hibben celebrate his 75th birthday this weekend.

One of Gils apprentices and my friend Mike Combs made a special knife for Gil. Anyone who knows Gil knows that he is somewhat partial to Makers Mark bourbon. With that in mind, Mike made Gil a special survial knife that even has a little Makers Mark stashed inside the handle.

This was a brilliant concept and a masterpiece of execution. Rick "Hutch" Hutchings did a great job with the scrimshaw and Mike's sheath really put this one over the top. Mike Combs is a hobby maker at this point but he is raising the bar for us.

perfect TM! made me think of my old man, he was another M.M. lover

Love the concept. I'd have to hide a little Don Julio in there. Great looking knife.

Great knife for a great man. And as always, your pics are terrific, Mike. I hope to see you all at the show Sept. 17th. I still have Gil's first catalog from 1964 - he promised to autograph it for me.
