Well here is my first knife. It is made from hardened planter blades.

First knife this month or ever? :D

GREAT looking first knife! Only an inch or so of my first looked that good!

Give us a bit more detail:

Length, scales, etc, etc, etc...

Looking forward to seeing more from you!

"Who knew they put so much shine in planter blades!" Farmers:D

Looks great for a first knife. We do need some details, please.

+1 on everyones comments. Knife looks FANTASTIC !

I do feel compelled to ask if you put a welt in the sheath ?

It could just be the pic but I thought I'd mention that a sheath without a welt is VERY dangerous !

Again GREAT work on that knife !

Thank you all for the kind comments. the knife is 6.5" long overall, with 3" blade. Scales are beautiful Redwood burl from Burlsource.

As i am still new to knife making and dont know, what are the dangers of not having a welt? That particular sheath did not have one. Right now i am making a new one for it, that is more of a pouch type sheath.

Mxlj,

The danger of no welt is there is nothing to protect the stitching from being cut when inserting and removing the knife. Or even if you were to take a fall while wearing it I suppose an awkward stress like that could easily push the blade right between the front and back splitting the stitches.

There are quite a few sheath tutorials floating around. Check in the top few threads in the sheathmaking section.

Here's a good one that shows pics of the welt-

Take care,
