I've been wanting to try dove-tailed bolsters for awhile, and am pretty darned pleased with the result...although,doing it by hand (I don't have a dead-flat disc sander) is seriously labor intensive...about 7 hours of work!

On a small knife,it's amazing how much weight they add!
I'm going to honey-comb drill out the insides to reduce some of the added heft:
right now it's a little too handle heavy.
I like the balance on a work knife to be just the slightest bit to the rear,
balancing right on the fore-finger rather than at the ricasso.

Looks great Jon,
I have often thought about doing that but I don't like bolsters.
maybe antler or bone bolsters. Keep up the good work man.

Thank you all!
I hope maybe someone can help me out though...
I just had a look around (searched all over)
and couldn't find any tips/hints on finishing mokume gane.
I've never used it on a knife before, and am wondering if there's a way to finish/seal it so it doesn't develop a tarnish or patina.
(it's copper and brass mokume).
I have the ferric chloride, and (somewhere) have an email explaining how to cut it with water for etching the mokume,
but nothing about the final finish (after I sand it to about 1200grit then polish it).
Thanks guys!

Looks great Wolf
How do you finish the scales on or off the blade do you dry fit everything and then dissemble it finish everything and then put it back together?

Wow, Wolf, that has to be a whole lot of work with a file and some sandpaper. Great fit, can't wait to see the finished product. Denny

Maybe wax it after it's all finished? Just a guess. It will need something, brass can get real ugly real fast.

Anyway you did a heck of a job!

Thanks Doug,
yeah,everything is dry-fit to final shape,then epoxied.
Then I tape/mask the blade really good and apply the finish.
