I found this stuff today,in a friend of mine shop.
Not sure if it is Wrought or not.Weather it is or not
How can I do a piece of it to see what it would look like?
Thanks,

God bless,Keith

my first impression is to say cast

i'm not seeing the silicate strings that would typically be associated with wrought.

you could heat it to a good yellow and tap lightly with a hammer, if it's cast it will crumble, if it's wrought it will work like soft copper (at a yellow heat).

I would also say cast, you can cut about 1/2 way through the flat bar and put it in a vise and bent it,if it snaps its cast,if it bends with strings it's probably wrought.

I thought it was cast, but was hoping otherwise.

What are some things to look for that were made of wrought?
Thanks for the help.

This is wrought.

I got this out of an old railroad car. PM me an address and I'll share a little with you.

Kieth,

It came out of an old passenger car that is almost rotted to the ground.
The thing was made from oak and wrought. every piece of metal in it so far has been wrought, even the nuts and flat washers.
I'll send you some in the next day or so. Only thing I ask in return is a post showing us what you made with it.

This is made from some of the stuff I'll be sending.

I'm thinking it could possible be wrought iron. I've had wrought iron look similar to your picture. Best way I know of is to cut a piece about 3/4 to 7/8 through and then bend it. If its wrought it should look like the picture Greg posted.

Thanks Ray.It's cast:(,but I'll keep a lookin.

I know the ring off an old wagon wheel would
be wrought.
Is it possible, some old farm implements would have
wrought in them?I ask,because I have a old horse
drawn hay rake.Is it possible some parts of it could
be wrought?
I checked one piece,that I could easily remove,but
it was not.Any idea??

Thank for the help guys.

God bless,Keith
